Take a detailed have a look at the “halo” across the angel’s head, and you will discover the steep, sloping partitions of an affect crater. In response to a press release from the ESA, this ethereal characteristic is the product of a meteorite collision that dug deep into the Purple Planet’s crust, constructing a crater and revealing the layers of historical sediment beneath.

On this topographic map, blue and purple areas present low altitudes whereas crimson, yellow and white areas present increased altitudes. Be aware the deep crater across the angel’s head. (Picture credit score: ESA)
