NCC (Nigerian Communications Commission) said it has not renewed Airtel’s mobile license.
NCC Director of Public Affairs, Dr. Ikechukwu Adinde announced this in a statement in Abuja on Sunday. According to him, the NCC is aware of the recently published statement by General Manager of Airtel Nigeria, Segun Ogunsanya, that Airtel’s cellular license has been renewed by the Commission for another 10 years.
Ogunsanya reportedly made the remarks in a speech in Lagos on July 14, 2021 during the media launch of Airtel’s “Touching Lives 6” corporate social responsibility program.
Adinde said that although Airtel Nigeria had applied to renew the Unified Access Service license that had been granted by the Commission, the application was still pending, adding that the company was in the process of mandatory regulation.
The news agency recalls that Ogunsanya at the start of season 6 of Airtel Touching Lives on Wednesday in Lagos, noted that Airtel through its commitment to empowering and uplifting people and to have a positive and lasting impact on the lives of those interested(stakeholders) , received a “Social License”.
