Favor Appiah, a 14-year-old girl, drowned in the pool of the popular Hotel in Efurun called Manuex Place, in the Uvwie LGA of Delta State.
Sources said the incident, which occurred on Sunday, confused guests and hotel staff.
It was found that the hotel on Jalan Jakpa was frequently used by several oil companies.
A family member of the victim who did not want to be named said the hotel management was negligent.
According to angry family members, pool workers were not present at the time of the incident.
The deceased was reported missing by relatives in the hotel grounds before her lifeless body was found at the bottom of the pool.
“We looked everywhere when we couldn’t find her. We thought she might have gone to change. We looked, but didn’t see her until we brought the incident to the hotel’s attention.”
“The pool staff was not there at the time of the incident. When the coast guard arrived he refused to enter the water. No one could see the bottom of the water.
“It was one of the receptionist who went on got into the pool to see if she was there. Lo and behold, there she was, drowned and lying at the bottom of the pool,” a family member said.
It was noted that the teenager’s body was later dumped in the Warri Central Hospital morgue.
Manuex Place hotel manager Benny O. confirmed the incident but declined to provide any details.
Delta State’s current public relations officer, DSP Bright Edafe, also confirmed the incident.
