The end of summer is approaching with big strides. The 2021/2022 school year is in sight. Here are five back-to-school family night movies that will make it easier for you and your kids to get back to book ideas. If you’ve never seen any of these films or are getting ready to watch some more, these old extras are sure to get you in your backpack, pen, and book mood in a super fun way!
1. Akeelah and the Bee.
Long before the 14-year-old Avant-garde Zaila, there was Akeelah. This 2006 classic was played by Keke Palmer, who played the 11-year-old Los Angeles kid starring in Scripps National Spelling Bee. Akeelah discovers that she has a talent for spelling and a desire to win.
2. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.
The Harry Potter series provides a magical touch of returning to school. You and your family will enjoy following the orphan Harry Potter who learns he is a wizard on his 11th birthday. After receiving the news, Harry embarks on a journey to Hogwarts, a boarding house with magical secrets. Harry made new friends, made new enemies and somehow always managed to save the day. The good thing about this series is that there is more than one movie which is poses to be too much fun!
3. Monster University.
Every great friendship has a beginning. Before Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan took over their day job at Monsters, Inc., the two were roommates at Monsters University. This super fun Disney movie will have you laughing from start to finish.
4. 100 Things To Do Before High School.
Even though it’s technically a television series; However, it definitely belongs on that list. If you have high school kids, this may be the only old but good thing you can watch together. 100 Things to do before High School is a story of three middle school students who have been warned of High School dangers. All three are doing their best to make the most of their years in between in this hilarious comedy. Take notes and get creative. Ask your high school students to write a list of 100 things they must do before high school!
5. School of Rock.
This classic is definitely a must watch, if you and/or your kids love all sorts of things about bands. The story is about overzealous guitarist Jack Black, who is kicked out of his own band but shows up at a concert as a substitute teacher at an elite private school. He introduced music to a group of reluctant students and allowed both parties to see that rock’n’roll was more than just music.
