The alleged bandits who kidnapped and killed two people in the community of Isoko, Delta state, were captured and then burned alive by angry youths in the area.
The incident occurred after a group of vigilantes traced the hoodlums to their hideout in the forest.
In the bloody encounter, six suspected bandits were paralyzed by the angry youths.
In addition, Community vigilante Group members armed with weapons such as cutlasses and locally made weapons were known to have some cooperation with the police.
The vigilante reportedly took the arrested hooligans to the police station, sources said.
However, angry residents were said to have mobilized in full force at the police station, where they were able to get hold of the arrested suspects, hanged and burned their bodies.
When contacted for confirmation, Delta Police public relations officer, DSP Bright Edafe, said he was not aware of the incident at the time of reporting.
